Open Mesh is now Datto Networking

Open Mesh is now Datto Networking

As you might have noticed already Open Mesh is being merged into Datto Networking. Starting January 1, 2019, Open Mesh products will be sold exclusively through Datto partners. This will mean some changes, so we want to let you know how they affect you. Also you will find further information on the Open Mesh website.
___

What will happen to my existing products / networks?

While Open Mesh products will no longer be sold under the Open Mesh brand, nothing will change for your existing Open Mesh networks. All Open Mesh products purchased on or before December 31, 2018 will continue to function as usual and ongoing access to Cloudtrax will enable you to cloud-manage your networks and Open Mesh devices. In addition, you will still be able to access email support. Any Open Mesh product will follow our standard end-of-life process.

Can I still buy under the one-time sales modell?

The one-time sales model will be available through the end of 2018. Availability after January 1, 2019 will be limited to any remaining inventory on hand through distribution and online resellers.

Will Open Mesh start charging a monthly fee on devices I’ve already purchased?

No, customers will not be charged a monthly fee on devices already purchased. Any device previously purchased from Open Mesh includes a free cloud license for the life of the product.

I have outstanding projects or pending hardware refreshes. Can I finalize them?

We will continue to sell Open Mesh products through the end of the year. Aside from remaining inventory available through distributors, effective January 1, 2019, Open Mesh products will be available exclusively as part of Datto Networking.

Will Cloudtrax be shut down at some point?

There are no plans to shut Cloudtrax down.  The Datto portal is a front-end to CloudTrax through our APIs so CloudTrax will exist for quite some time.
There may be a time that the hardware, effectively, cannot support the firmware that is required to access CloudTrax, which is why we have EOL/EOS dates. Right now EOL date is 12/2021 but this might be extended (we will update you on this).

Is there going to be any method to manage the access points locally?

There is not any plan to enable local management.

Will firmware development continue for the A series, eg. Will the DFS channels be enabled?

Yes, absolutely,  This will be built into future released of Firmware that will auto-update based on how you’ve configured and enabled that function of the networks through CloudTrax.

How will RMA's be dealt with after December 31st?

Open Mesh will maintain an inventory for RMA replacement that will be handled directly. As usual, please contact us first so that we can find the best possible solution.

Can I migrate to Datto?

If you want, you can also migrate newer devices to Datto. Please get in touch with Datto if you want to do so.

What is the Datto Networking pricing model?

Datto Networking pricing aligns with how a managed services provider sells its service, on a month by month basis. There are low up-front costs, no contracts to sign, no long-term commitments, and products are billed only if the devices are active.

Is there going to be any discount or rebate for any customer wanting to migrate to Datto?

Yes, there will be a path to do that.  It’s handled on a individual case basis so please discuss with Datto.

Of course this development also has an impact on us as Open Mesh Distributor. In the next weeks we will think about what to do next.
Until then, we'd like to ask you to participate in a small survey that will help us make a decision.
